Rye – November – What’s On?

Saying goodbye to summer is always bittersweet. With the nights drawing in, I miss the days of long, light evenings and warmer weather, whilst simultaneously relishing the opportunity to hunker down indoors, lighting the fire, and enjoying a slightly slower pace of life before the festive period. Of course, if there’s an opportunity to chase some winter sun, I’ll jump at that chance! I’ve just returned from a break, visiting family in beautiful Sri Lanka, the place which inspires me to no end and truly feeds my creative soul.

That being said, I do love a brisk walk, embracing the fierce winds along the beach, or gentle crunch of leaves underfoot as I navigate my way through the countryside in and around Rye, especially if it ends in a hot chocolate at Knoops, or a glass of something lovely at a local pub!

Here’s what’s on my radar, as well as what I’m up to as we enter this new season.

Rye Bonfire

This weekend, I’m very much looking forward to the spectacle that is Rye Bonfire night. The smell of the bonfire, the colours that dance amongst the flames, the costumes, the celebration, the food, and the community that comes together to revel in the events really do make me so happy.

Steeped in history and cultural significance, it’s a love letter to rebellion, religion and riot of days gone by… and perhaps modern times, too.

If you’re hoping to catch the procession, here’s the programme of events.

The Plough at Udimore is high on my list to visit in the near future, especially with this weather calling out for a proper Sunday Lunch. I’ve heard absolute rave reviews about this restaurant, their menu looks absolutely divine.

Pure comfort by way of local roast meats, innovative flavours, and generous portions, I’ll be making a reservation as soon as I can pin time in my family’s busy diaries!

Heather Rajaratnam Fine Jewellery

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ll have seen that I’ve been very busy working away, working to complete my Gemmology Diploma, since completing my Certificate in Gemmology, and I’m truly relishing getting to know so many fine gems intimately, and how I can incorporate them into my work and future collections.

I’m working towards a collection showcasing 18ct fairtrade yellow gold, both an ethical and immensely beautiful option for jewellery to last a lifetime.

I’ve created another, dedicated Instagram profile to showcase my Gemmology work, if this is something you’re interested in, please follow me there!

I’ll be back next month for another instalment of this blog, but in the meantime, please make sure you’re signed up to my newsletter here, and follow me on social media here.
