Rye – February – What’s On?

Welcome to edition 2 of my personal recommendations guide to Rye and the local area from the perspective of a designer with a penchant for seeking out the most special places and experiences. Surrounding myself with the cultural, curated and curious.

Consuming art in all its forms helps stretch our creative muscles in many different ways. For me, it’s key to seek out inspiration for future jewellery collections, and supporting other creative individuals in the meantime is the perfect recipe for time spent in this corner of the world.

The Fig

If you find yourself in Rye, you must visit The Fig for a bite to eat. Casual enough to pop in for lunch, but absolutely special enough to visit for an occasion, it’s not only decorated impeccably, but the food is absolutely delicious. They also have 4 rooms above the restaurant if you’re looking for somewhere to stay during your visit.

I can personally recommend the pulled pork tacos, harissa aubergine, and their cauliflower tikka chaat. All of their plates are designed to share, so you can try lots of different things, (which I love!)

The Fig’s chef patron is a lady named Rosie Furnival. She recently took part in the BBC’s ‘MasterChef the Professionals’ and reached the final twelve. I feel so lucky to live so close to such a brilliant establishment and suggest you give it a try next time you’re in town.

The George

Another fantastic eaterie in the heart of Rye is The George. The building dates back to 1575, and in a previous life it was a sixteenth-century coaching inn. IIt has since been renovated to become one of the most beautiful landmarks in our wonderful town. It feels cosy, romantic, luxurious, and teeming with stories from a bygone era.

The food itself is wonderful, but even if you aren’t looking to eat, you can easily hunker down on a cold winter’s day with a bottle of something lovely, with your favourite people and it’ll be time very well spent. It also serves as a wedding venue, and I have to say, if I was looking to book my own again, this would be a contender.

The Lyon, The Witch & The Wardrobe

There’s nothing I love more than a good rummage through carefully curated pre-loved fashion. The Lyon, The Witch & The Wardrobe on the High Street in Rye is the perfect example of just that. Full to the brim with treasure looking for a new home, this shop not only keeps my wardrobe feeling fresh, but leaves me feeling inspired, taking in the textures, shapes, and creations from other designers, the smallest thing may inspire an aspect of my jewellery collections. I’ve also sold some of my pre-loved pieces in this shop, and I can highly recommend them from that perspective, too.

These are just a few of my favourite places to visit in Rye. It truly is such a buzzing town full of inspiration and it makes me feel so happy to be able to share in the enjoyment.

I’ll be back next month for another instalment of my personal guide to what’s on in Rye from a designer’s perspective.
